How do B2C Producers finance the costs of collection, treatment, and disposal of WEEE?

The WEEE Regulations require all B2C Producers to pay for their share of all EEE products collected, treated, recovered and disposed, in the UK.

B2C Producers report their EEE sales quarterly, which helps to determine their market share.  Their market share is calculated by dividing the weight of the EEE placed onto the market by the Producer by the total EEE placed onto the UK market over the same period of time.  This market share calculation is then applied to the total WEEE that is collected and treated within the UK during the same period of time.  This provides each Producer with their obligation.

Transform obtains sufficient evidence of the collection, treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal of WEEE to meet the obligation of all members.  The associated costs are passed back to the Producer.

The evidence of the collection, treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal of WEEE is achieved through a system of Evidence Notes to ensure that this is completed in line with the targets set out in the WEEE Regulations and comply with all other legislation for treatment & disposal of WEEE.

Only Approved Authorised Treatment Facilities (AATFs) or Approved Exporters (AEs) are able to issue Evidence Notes and this is done through the WEEE Settlement Centre once they have treated the WEEE.  Evidence Notes are specific to the category of WEEE which has been treated and disposed.
