For producers who place their products into the household market they have two responsibilities:
1. They must register with an approved compliance scheme, providing company details and data for products placed
onto the market which in turn, have to be supplied by the scheme to the relevant environmental Agency.
- Environment Agency (EA) if the scheme’s main office is in England or Wales
- Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) if the scheme’s main office is in Scotland
- Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) if the scheme’s main office is in Northern Ireland.
2. They must then pay for their market share proportion of all costs related to the collection, treatment and recycling of WEEE from Designated Collection Facilities (DCFs), the sites to which the public will be able to deposit their electrical waste. (these will generally be existing civic amenity sites).
